231 S. LaSalle Street Amenities Center project
JLL awarded Bear Construction Company the contract to complete the Amenities Center project at 231 S. LaSalle Street, Chicago. Team members included, JLL¡¯s VP Greg O¡¯Neal, Asst. GM Kelsey Wills, Building Engineers Joe O¡¯ Rourke and Allen Alic, Brian Whiting, Jamey Dix and Jack O¡¯Brien from the Telos Group. Wright Heerema Architects Roger Heerema, Laura Operti, Michelle Tsoumas, Cary Chandler, ESD¡¯s Robert Wage and Tony Garcia and Perry and Associates¡¯ Christopher Perry provided architectural and engineering services. Sr. PM Nick Minella, Asst. PM Ryan Prendergast and Superintendent Mike Reda managed the project for Bear.
The project included three major components including the outdoor roof deck, tenant lounge and fitness center. Within these individual spaces were unique construction challenges as wide-ranging as two separate helicopter drops of HVAC components, a two-story internal stairwell, locker rooms, kitchenette, outdoor fireplace and outdoor bar/lounge area. The project was deemed a huge success and provides an exceptional amenity for the building tenants.
St. Elizabeth Hospital nurse training center
ResU engaged Bear Construction Company to build out an additional nurse training center at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Chicago. ResU prepares students for professional health care careers. Sister Sandi Sosnowski, CSFN, may be Bear¡¯s biggest fan and is quoted saying, ¡°Get into the Habit of using Bear! Nun are better!¡±
Commercial Kitchen project - Gate Gourmet at 200 W. Madison Street
Gate Gourmet and Transwestern contracted Bear Construction Company to build out a fully operable, commercial kitchen on the 29th floor at 200 W. Madison Street, Chicago. Along with a kitchen that cooks for United Airlines, the 3500 sq. ft. space includes office space and a conference room. Josh Christ, Bear's Sr. Project Manager, worked closely with the architect, East Lake Studio and Mechanical Engineer, Kent Consulting.
Spec Suites project at 181 W. Madison Street
Bear Construction Company was awarded the 37th floor spec suites project at 181 W. Madison by MB Real Estate. The 21, 200 SQ. FT. project was designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz with ESD providing the mechanical engineering. Project Executive Joe Nieckula managed the project for Bear.
hybris? expansion project at 20 N. Wacker
20 N. Wacker LLC hired Bear Construction Company and Sr. Project Manager Jim Hopkins, Asst. Project Manager Scott Hopkins and Superintendent Mike Knowles to build out the hybris expansion project. The 14,000 SQ. FT. TI project was designed by architects from Perkins and Will and included the former Tower Club space maintaining much of the original woodwork, including the hand carved fireplace enclosure brought from Europe in the early 20th century.
Booking.com Project at 200 W. Madison
Bear Decorating worked on a creative project for Booking.Com at 200 W. Madison. Corridors, hallways and the main lobby floors were sealed and painted with various graphics and then coated with two coats of clear epoxy, directing traffic through the office. Stay in your own lane!

Employees from Bear Construction Company turned out on October 5th for the Inaugural 5K run/walk at Barrington Road Pond. The perfect weather and company culture yielded a big turnout to promote getting in shape and living healthy.

Bear Construction Company exhibited their booth at the Pack Expo Pharma Expo International at the Chicago McCormick Place from November 2-5. The four day event connected over 50,000 processing and packaging leaders and 2,000 suppliers from around the globe. Over 2400 exhibitors displayed their products and services. Jay Leno performed to a sold out audience with a portion of the proceeds supporting the ¡°K9¡¯s for Warriors¡± charity.
2014 CFMA Conference
Bret Bush, Lisa Chandler and Kathy Bender from Bear Construction Company attended the Regional CFMA Conference in Oakbrook last autumn. The conference is attended by CFO¡¯s, CEO¡¯s and Controllers form the Midwest¡¯s top Construction Companies.
Bear Training at Ditka¡¯s Trackside
Bear Construction Company conducted their semi-annual Project Manager training session last November. With the company¡¯s recent expansion of personnel, Bear had to move the event to Ditka¡¯s Trackside in Arlington Heights to accommodate their nearly 100 professionals, including 26 project managers, 7 estimators, assistant project managers and coordinators. The class reinforced company policies, communications, site condition appearances, safety and an update of trending industry changes. Bear now employs over 200 full time employees including union carpenters, laborers and painters and in 2015 moves into its 31st year of business in General Contracting and Construction Management.
2014 Bear Construction Company Christmas party
Bear¡¯s office Christmas party at Old Orchard Country Club was very festive with good drink, very good food and great people. Santa Claus, George, Nick and Jim Wienold and Scott Kurinsky handed out numerous raffle prizes to lucky employees including a 60¡± flat screen TV.

The Bear family grew three times, recently adding three baby bears to its den. Matthew is ready for his parents, Sr. Project Manager Ryan McDonough and Mom Amelia to take him to his first Hawks game; Aubrey Janelle is in the pink for her Dad, Assistant Project Manager, Derek Willie and Mom Taylor; and Maxsym Kosogof is ready to play with his Dad, Sr. Project Manager, Tim and Mom, Melissa.
